If I decided tomorrow I wanted to blow the $$$ it would be so that I could mess around with a theme build or try a quirky strategy like a team of characters that stun/counterattack.Find answers to questions about the GPORTAL website, questions about servers and external tools here. I am forced to max out the meta-viable, stronger toons of the bunch even if I may not really enjoy their style so much, to remain where I am rank-wise and consistent with GW. I think what I envy of the P2P players is that they have more variety in their build choice. I'm highly competitive IRL so that kind of carries over into everything I do, even this delightful time sink. I don't know if I am "crazy skilled" but I may have slightly better luck with the RNG than the average person.Īnd I may be F2P but I don't know if I count as "casual". And it's not a young server, been playing since mid-December. ![]() Certainly I am swimming in whale-infested waters at those ranks, but that is part of the insane challenge. There is no way a casual f2p gets to maxed out toons destroying arenas.īut then casuals probably don't care to rock the #1 spot. But certain that f2p top players are low in %. The F2P top arena champs are crazy skilled, amazing players. ![]() I bet the top tier arena champs are majority P2P. If you don't spend large amount of $s then how are people getting high end maxed out toons? I have close to 5k crystals (I know, not a lot), but I haven't paid for any yet, and I do a couple refreshes depending on how arena goes, and if I'm close to a shard or an armor or something Shards and crystals and everything else you can make by being patient. If they had a shop where you couple purchase ability mats a couple times a month, I would totally throw money at that. I've thought about it, and wouldn't mind paying either for something worth it, I found what that something is. Still, it's a nice enough game that I do want to throw some money CG/EA's way, but I don't know what I could spend on that would not somehow screw with my current approach.Ĭouldn't agree with you more. But I'm saying I don't even drop $5 on this game, because I enjoy the challenge of it. Sure, and on some level it's an influence in my decision to stay F2P. It's not that I can't afford it, but why drop thousands on a mobile game? I'd much rather buy thirty new PS4 games than spend $1200 on this one game. I dont spend money because it's not worth it. I work in long-term financial investments and insurance so my outlook might be colored by my occupation.Īnyone else out there deliberately hampering progress to play the game this way? Admittedly this approach sort of invalidates some of the recurring complaints on the forums.Īnd if you're curious, my Arena performance is fine, and I complete GW daily with some toon losses and about a dozen retreats or so, having to deal with hardcore 70 teams in about 3/4 of my battles. I mean, it's nothing to toss maybe $10 to $50 at the game every month, but even for that pittance I don't feel the compulsion because the reward of getting places without payment is much more thrilling. Like, what's the challenge in throwing your money at the game until everyone is geared and 7*? Better to grind it out daily and enjoy the gradual improvements in characters, and roster, which reflect in turn in the GW gauntlet, the Arena ranking and progress overall. Was wondering, however, if there are plenty of F2Ps out there who could easily go wild on crystals and chromium purchases, but don't want to because it would make the game too "easy". The impression I have gotten thus far in the whole P2P/F2P dichotomy is that it has boiled down simply to P2P = money to spend, in varying levels of prosperity, versus F2P who don't have the resources to do so. ![]()
